The six branches of the Catholic RED (Religious Education Directory) curriculum are a structured way to teach Catholic beliefs and practices, following a cycle of salvation history and the liturgical year. The branches are:  1. Creation and Covenant 2.  Prophecy and Promise 3. Galilee to Jerusalem 4. Desert to Garden 5. To the Ends of the Earth 6. Dialogue and EncounterThese branches are explored through four “lenses”—Hear, Believe, Celebrate, and Live—to provide a comprehensive understanding of the  faith.

Here’s a breakdown of each branch:
  1. Creation and Covenant

Focuses on God as Creator and the covenant relationship established with Abraham and Moses.

  2. Prophecy and Promise

Teaches about the role of prophets and the fulfilment of God’s promise in the coming of Jesus, including the mystery of the incarnation and Advent.

  3. Galilee to Jerusalem

Explores Jesus’ ministry and journey to Jerusalem.

  4. Desert to Garden

This branch relates to the liturgical journey from the barrenness of Lent (the desert) to the new life of Easter and the Resurrection (the garden).

  5. To the Ends of the Earth

This branch looks at Jesus’ Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and the Apostles and disciples spreading the Gospel to all nations.

  6. Dialogue and Encounter

This branch focuses on studying other religions and worldviews through the lens of dialogue, encouraging understanding and engagement.

Each branch builds upon the previous year’s learning, creating a spiral structure that deepens the understanding of the Catholic faith, scripture, and the liturgical year for pupils over their school journey.
