Over the past two years, we have been part of the National Professional Enquiry Project (NPEP). This programme is supporting a growing network of schools to develop a range of enquiry skills by leading enquiries in their own setting to explore professional learning requirements for the new curriculum
In 2020 – 21, our research project was called ‘Does attainment in writing standards increase following the teaching of Higher Order Reading skills (HORS)?’
In 2021-22, we ran a research project centred on the following question: ‘Reading environment – What is its impact on reading enjoyment?’
In 2022-23, we ran a project based on ‘How does a variety of linguistic literary reading resources effect reading enthusiasm in a culturally diverse primary classroom?’
In 2023- 24, our next project was ‘How does the provision of reading resources in a variety of languages, cultural and social backgrounds affect enthusiasm and engagement in literacy in a diverse primary class?’ We had a group of pupil researchers who contributed to the research. This research was also presented at the UKLA conference in Brighton.
In 2024-25, How does developing genre awareness impact children’s confidence in choosing books? This project was led by a group of pupil researchers.
